We all have some kind of celebrity that we look up to, no matter if we are talking about an artist, sport celebrity, actor, radio host, dancer, or any other famous personality you can think of. For me personally i have always looked up to Swedish actor Dolph Lundgren. Not only because he brought us several great action films over many years, but he seems to be a nice man who actually care about people. Did you know that he is the ambassador for Mentor Foundation who works to help children and young people from all kinds of abuse. The fact that this is something very important for Dolph himself i think it is wonderful he is trying to help young people who are going through abuse or have in the past. Any kind of abuse towards a child should never be allowed to happen, and i would want to live in a world where no child should ever go through something like this. I understand that we might not be able to stop every abuser but we have to try at least. Unless we stand up for the children or young people, they may never be able to live a normal life and become even more damaged in their lives than what they already are. In England a very popular DJ became one of the biggest TV star celebrities on BBC and did a lot of charity work over the years. Until the truth came out a year after his death in 2012 that Jimmy Savile had sexually abused and molested a lot of children in his career. I remember when i read this on the newspapers here in Sweden. I have seen Jimmy Savile on TV sometime in the early 90´s but never really watched any of his shows and just remembered his face. Over the years i heard rumours that legendary actor and comedian Steve Coogan was going to play Jimmy Savile in a TV mini series telling the story of how Jimmy´s career started and how things falled apart. So i finally sat down to watch the TV mini series The Reckoning and the question is, does Steve Coogan capture the looks and personality of Jimmy Savile or is this TV mini series not as good as i was hoping it would be?
On October 29, 2011, TV presenter Jimmy Savile passed away who was a beloved TV host and TV personality for many years across Great Britain. In 2012 it became clear that Jimmy Savile wasnt the friendly, loving man he might have tricked people to believe. In fact it turned out that he was a predator with far more victims than anyone could have ever imagined.
The Reckoning really show what a monster Jimmy Savile was, how he tricked children and teenagers thinking he was going to take care of them and molested many of them. A sickening behavior that pedophiles all around the world use daily to gain trust of their victims. This is a TV mini series that is very difficult to watch when you know how many children that Jimmy Savile molested and abused over the years, but the truth needs to be told. A story like this needs to be shown in public to make sure that people understand that these predators can be anywhere in public, at work, in school, a politician, a celebrity, basically anyone that we did not expect. Let´s get into why this TV mini series is so good and let us begin with the acting performance from British actor Steve Coogan. He does a brilliant acting performance and manage to capture the predator behavior in his performance of Jimmy Savile. He must have really studied the body language of Savile and how he put on a fake face mask to trick his victims. There is especially one scene ( i won´t go into details ) where he locks himself in with a young woman and you can see the fear in her eyes. This TV mini series does a really good job telling us how Jimmy Saville started his career as a DJ before he was the the very first presenter for the popular TV show Top Of The Pops and how his popularity contiued in the 70´s and the 80´s. One detail that i especially found interesting is when Savile had a rough time in the 90´s to stay popular. This is especially where we see that it´s getting harder for him to hide his true evil personality. The production of this TV mini series is really well made, the acting from the whole cast is really good and the dialogue is definetely powerful in the most disgusting scenes. The Reckoning may be really difficult for some people to watch, especially if you are a victim of child abuse or child molestation. I do feel that we need to make more people more aware of how predators function in society and The Reckoning definetely give us plenty of images of that. Directors Sandra Goldbacher and David Blair deliver one of the most emotional TV mini series i have seen in many years and we all need to see The Reckoning.
