Comic book heroes have always entertained a generation of young minds. With a mix of fantasy, story telling and human emotions, Superman and Batman may be 2 of the biggest comic book icons of all time. But then again, DC Comics have a list of characters that everyone can find their own favourite. The latest DC character to bring to the big screen this time is Green Lantern. And with Ryan Reynolds on board, is this the comic book movie of 2011?
Long long ago, when earth still did not exist, Guardians Of The Universe used green essence of willpower to create an intergalactic police force named Green Lantern Corps. The universe were split in 3.600 sectors, with one Green Lantern in every sector. One of these Green Lantern´s named Abin Sur, defeated the evil Parallax, and imprisoned him on the ruined planet Ryut. But Parallax manages to escape, and begin to destroy Green Lanterns as well as 3 planets. Abin Sur manages to escape, and lands on earth, and need to find a new Green Lantern, with the help of his own ring.
Hal Jordan ( Ryan Reynolds ) , is a test pilot at Ferris Aircraft, who still lives with memories of seeing his dad dying in a plane crash. But things are about to change his life completely, as the ring of Abin Sur, chooses Hal to take over the place from Abin. Hal is transported to the crash site of Abin, where he accept the ring, as Abin tells him of whats to come. As Abin dies, Hal tries to understand whats happening to him. The first time Hal uses his green energy, he is transported to the planet Oa. Here he begins his training to become a worthy Green Lantern, and to understand what they do. But is he really strong enough to face the evil of Parallax?
Comic book movies can be very entertaining, if they are made with intelligent scripts and well made effects. Green Lantern lands somewhere in the middle of Ben Afflecks version of Daredevil. Its filled with action, lots of cgi effects, but its not enough to please me. Ryan Reynolds try to bring a personality to Green Lantern, but seems to find a hard time to find his own twist on this character. I can understand if kids will love this, since it feels more like a movie made for the cartoon generation. I think i rather watch Thor again, Kenneth Branagh´s version of the comic character is significantly more fun than a green flying light.
