Fright Night

Old school horror movies never dies, even if the years gone bye, and the effects were often terrible. But some movies just stood on their own, thanks to good casting and an original twist. Fright Night, wich became a hit movie in 1985, looked like a simple vampire movie on paper, but had an original idea. What if your new neighbour was a vampire, would someone belive you, and how would you proof it? Roddy McDowall´s character Peter Vincent - The Vampire Slayer, is still today an icon in vampire movies, and a cool mix of Van Helsing and a horror tv host. So now we have a new updated version in our hands, will Fright Night survive the remake industry, when so many fails to live up to the original?

A family is found murdered in Las Vegas, Nevada. But police have a problem, theres no evidence on who murdered these bodies. Charlie Brewster ( Anton Yelchin ) is an ordinary teenager, facing issues with his girlfriend Amy Peterson ( Imogen Poots ). His mother Jane Brester ( Toni Collette ) is very curious about their new neighbour Jerry Dandrige ( Colin Farrell ). He seems nice, and helpfull. But when more people start to dissapear, like Chalies old friend " Evil " Ed Lee ( Christopher Mintz-Plasse ), Charlie gets suspicious on whats really going on. As he begins to investigate the truth about his neighbour Jerry, the situation starts to become more dangerous, than he ever could have imagined.

Guess what folks, this is actually suprisingly good. I know, its hard to imagine that can be true. But the fact is, Fright Night is a well made vampire movie. Not only because director Craig Gillespie tries to keep some roots from the original, he also manages to make some new fun moves with the storyline, to actually suprise us. And the new Peter Vincent? Well, he is certainly different, a Las Vegas show man, in leather pants, making shows about killing vampires. But honestly, it works. Scottish actor David Tennant is really good as Peter Vincent, and funny also. Colin Farrell delivers a good performance, while Anton Yelchin hits the spot with his own version of Charlie Brewster. I never thought i would say this, but Fright Night is a fun frightner. Who needs Twilight romantic vampires, when we can have vampires with bigger balls?
